Crowns

A crown restores the shape, size, alignment, and integrity of a tooth, in order to re-establish proper bite and function. Crowns strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure and can improve the appearance of your smile. Dentistry has to be undetectable: as such, a crown is a restoration that looks and feels like your natural teeth. If a porcelain crown is the indicated option and if it is feasible in your particular situation, our CEREC CAD-CAM can even mill your crown in-office and the whole process can be completed in just one visit. Otherwise, two visits are required. With good hygiene, the lifespan of a crown is 12-15 years.

Why do I need a crown? Severely worn, decayed, fractured or broken teeth.

  • Fractured large fillings
  • Following a root canal for protecting and supporting that tooth
  • Restoring an implant
  • Changing your smile by masking a malformation or severe discoloration

Also, many people have unexplained pain from filled back teeth, which is usually due to hairline cracks in the chewing part of the tooth. In front teeth, older fillings can both weaken the teeth and cause “appearance” problems due to staining or chipping. Placing crowns on these teeth relieves the pain and allows a return of full dental function and esthetics for these teeth.
